First O2 running
The first O2 of my collection is updated and connected to a NFS server.
I used an O2, where I was able to login as root and an old Suse Linux laptop acting as NFS server.
A good introduction on how to setup a Suse system as NFS server can be found in document Sharing file systems with NFS.
I decided not to do a complete new installation, but just update the system because the following software was available on the system:
- Adobe PhotoShop 3.0.1
- MultiGen II 1.5.0
After adding user SgiTcl and setting up the NFS client,
I updated the installed IRIX version 6.5.11 to 6.5.22.
When upgrading overlays from versions of IRIX prior to 6.5.22 to 6.5.22 or later patch 5086 must be applied first. The patch fixes a bug in inst, which causes problems in versions later than 6.5.21. The patch file
patchSG0005086.tardist can be downloaded from ex.
SGI IRIX patches.
The following CD's are needed to update to 6.5.22:
IRIX 6.5.22 Installation Tools and Overlays (1 of 3).iso IRIX 6.5.22 Overlays (2 of 3).iso IRIX 6.5.22 Overlays (3 of 3).iso IRIX 6.5 Applications November 2003.iso IRIX 6.5 Development Foundation 1.2.iso IRIX 6.5 Development Libraries February 2002.iso IRIX 6.5 Foundation 1.iso IRIX 6.5 Foundation 2.iso ONC3 NFS Version 3.iso
I did not use real CD's or ISO images, but downloaded the needed tar files from jrra.zone and copied them onto the NFS server. After untaring the files, I used the Software Manager to update the system via NFS.

Connecting my BlueSCSI device and mounting the NFS shares, I now have the following mount points available:
